How do I get Information About Inclement Weather?

The first notification of early school dismissal or school closings is made to radio and television stations. If the weather appears threatening, please tune to one of these stations and wait for further information. We recommend TV channel 5 and radio channel 101.5.

In addition, parents may sign up for the e-mail notification system to receive timely e-mails concerning urgent WCPSS news and important events such as school closings, delays in opening, early dismissals, public hearings and the opening of online forums. If you have concerns about your student's safety due to weather during the day, feel free to come to school and pick up your child. It is not necessary to telephone the school.

Please do not telephone the school and ask that your child be "pulled from the bus" in an inclement weather situation. It is extremely important that students leave campus as soon as possible and keeping them at school in an inclement weather situation may cause a dangerous situation for your child and our staff. All bus riders will be placed on their assigned bus unless their parents arrive before buses leave our campus.

Make-up days due to inclement weather are held on Saturdays from 8:45 AM - 12:15 PM for year-round schools. For year-round schools, WCPSS usually schedules make-up days for the Saturday after the missed day. In the event that inclement weather cancels multiple days, the make-up days will not be scheduled on consecutive Saturdays.
