APRIL 2007
Our character trait for this month is Good Judgment, which is defined as choosing proper goals, setting proper priorities, thinking through the consequences of your actions and basing decisions on practical wisdom and good sense. Please discuss good judgment with your child throughout this month.
Friday, April 6, 2007 is a holiday for all students and staff. Students should report back to school on Monday, April 9th.
For the safety of all students and staff members during afternoon carpool, we will no longer walk around the car and load children from the driver’s side. All students will be loaded from the passenger’s side only. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our students and staff members safe.
Our final Early Release Day for the 2006-2007 school year is Tuesday, April 17. We will dismiss school for all students at 12:00 p.m. If you are picking your child up in carpool, please arrive BEFORE 12:15 pm. Our teachers and teacher assistants will be involved in staff development sessions or parent conferences that afternoon.
River Bend Elementary School yearbooks have arrived for those students who pre-ordered and paid for them. Yearbooks will be sent home during the week of April 16th. If you do not want the yearbook to be sent home with your child, please contact a member of our office staff at 431-8010 and we will hold it here for you to pick up.
You are cordially invited to River Bend Elementary School’s student music performance (2nd, 3rd and 4th grade) and the PTA General Assembly meeting which will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in the East Millbrook Middle School music room. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and we hope to see you there.
Kindergarten orientation for incoming 2007-2008 kindergarten students will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the River Bend Elementary School cafeteria. The purpose of this meeting is to provide parents with an opportunity to gain knowledge about the instructional program at the kindergarten grade level. We look forward to seeing you on May 10th.
Congratulations to Kasie Omile, Adonnas Barkley, Rashonda Maye and Angela Moore. These students proudly represented River Bend Elementary School at a county-wide Black History Quiz Bowl competition on February 24, 2007and finished in 2nd place. We are very proud of Kasie, Adonnas, Rashonda and Angela for all of their hard work!
Congratulations to Kamel Bloodworth, a fifth grade student in Mr. Cline’s classroom. Kamel was recognized at the March 6 meeting of the Wake County School Board as our school’s representative for the Spotlight on Students program. The Spotlight on Students program recognizes students who are high achievers and active learners, good citizens, good decision-makers and advocates for wellness. We are very proud of Kamel!
As a reminder, our school day begins at 9:15 a.m. We ask that all parents work to have their children to school on-time. If your child arrives to school late, please provide them with a note explaining the reason they are tardy. If a tardy or absence is due to an illness or a medical appointment, we ask that you provide our office staff with a written note signed by the parent/guardian or doctor so we may categorize your child’s tardy or absence as excused. Please provide a written note explaining the absence or appointment on the day your child returns to school.
Please remind your children that their bus drivers or school buses may be different from time to time due to mechanical difficulties or staff absences. Students should board the bus as scheduled, even if it is a different bus number or driver. Drivers always identify themselves as River Bend bus drivers if they are substituting. In addition, pick up and drop-off times are approximate and it is possible that a bus may arrive a few minutes early or a few minutes late. We apologize for any delays or confusion and ask that you contact the school at 431-8010 with any questions or concerns about buses.
Please be mindful that shoes with wheels built-in (commonly called “wheelies” or “heelies”) pose a safety risk and are strictly prohibited at River Bend Elementary School. Students are also asked not to bring any toys, games or electronic devices to school and should refrain from bringing large sums of money to school as well. The policies and guidelines related to toys and the student dress code are outlined in our student handbook.
In July 2008, we will move into our permanent brick and mortar school located near the intersection of Fox Road and Louisburg Road by the new Wake Technical Community College campus. The construction of our new school is on schedule. Parents can find more information and read about the progress of the school on the internet at http://www.wcpss.net/facilities/schools/elementary/river_bend_e.html.
