FROM THE HART NEWSLETTER
FEBRUARY 2007
If you have not registered your child for kindergarten, please plan to do so as soon as possible. You may come to the school between the hours of 8:45-4:00 to complete registration forms. You may register your child if he/she will be five on or before October 16, 2007. Please remember to bring the following items with you in order to register your child: (1)the child’s social security card, (2) a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate, (3)an immunization (shot) record for your child, and (4)proof of residence. Please call the school at 431-8010 if you have questions.
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. I ask that you not have balloons, flowers, or other items delivered to the school for students. We will not accept delivery of these items because we cannot be responsible for students getting them home safely. Items of this nature are not supposed to be taken on buses and they usually cause disruption in the classroom. Thank you for working with us on this request.
Our character trait for the month of February is integrity. Integrity is defined as having the inner strength to be truthful, trustworthy, and honest in all things. Integrity is acting justly and honorably.
Congratulations to Kamel Bloodworth, a fifth grade student in Mr. Cline’s classroom, who was selected by River Bend teachers as our school’s candidate for the Spotlight on Students program. The WCPSS Spotlight on Students program recognizes students who are high achievers and active learners, good citizens, good decision-makers and who advocate for wellness. Kamel will be recognized at the March School Board Meeting and we are very proud of him.
Our next Early Release Day is scheduled for March 1. We will dismiss school for all students at 12:00 p.m. Teachers and teacher assistants will be involved in a staff development workshop. April 17 is our last early release date for this school year. Please mark your calendars with these important dates.
If your child arrives to school late due to illness or a medical appointment, we ask that you provide our office staff with a written note signed by the parent/guardian or doctor so we may categorize your child’s “tardy” as “excused.” If we do not receive written verification of an illness or appointment, we can not categorize the “tardy” as “excused.”
In July, 2008, we will move into our permanent "brick and mortar" school located near the intersection of Fox Road and Louisburg Road by the new Wake Technical Community College campus. The construction of our new school is on schedule! Parents can find more information and read about the progress of the school on the internet at http://www.wcpss.net/facilities/schools/elementary/river_bend_e.html.
Please continue to monitor the weather and dress your children appropriately. Although our classrooms are all inside and are “climate-controlled,” our students must still walk to and from the carpool and bus areas, to and from the cafeteria and to and from specials. Please make sure your students come to school with winter and/or rain coats as needed.
The first notification of early school dismissal or school closings is made to radio and television stations. If the weather appears threatening, please tune to one of the stations and wait for further information. In addition, parents may sign up for the e-mail notification system to receive timely e-mails concerning urgent WCPSS news and important events such as school closings, delays in opening, early dismissals, public hearings and the opening of online forums. You may sign up on the internet at http://www.wcpss.net/notification_list/index.html. When a day is missed due to inclement weather, the make-up day for year-round schools are usually scheduled by the Wake County Public School System for the Saturday after the missed day.
“Spirit Day” awards for Track 1 & 2 students were given by the PTA on Friday, February 2, 2007. The class with the most “Spirit Day” participation was Mrs. Wilbourne’s 1st grade class, the class with the most creative participation was Mrs. Athus’ 4th grade class, and Andrew Altstad was the “Most Spirited Student.” Congratulations to our winners!
